capsize | 2011 | photography
tad beck and jennifer locke For Capsize, photographs were taken of models attempting handstands on top of a capsized rowboat at sea, inverting the usual relationship of boat/body/water. Inversion is something that also happens within the camera lens. Capsize employs a water drop as a stand in for the lens. Control over the drop requires a return to the studio. We reshot large prints of the initial images through water drops. The reflection of the studio windows to remains in the water drop. The collapse of interior/exterior, performance/documentation, studio/landscape again becomes paramount.
